This short course describes the the latest technology for “passive” and “active” (chemical)
treatment technology for acid mine drainage. The following was presented and discussed:
the results of laboratory scale projects using passive systems; design parameters and
results with passive systems in a variety of field applications; the latest chemical (mainly
lime) technology and the results of the MEND studies on sludge stabilization and
disposal (MEND 3.42.2). The course also provides a concise economical and
environmental comparison of treatment technologies in a variety of geographical settings.
